Beeches Vintage
Here we have a very special Vintage Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell from the 1940s. It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present to use for calligraphy or as desk decor.
It was made by Adie Brothers Ltd and it was Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1947.
This unique inkwell was given as a gift to Miss Reed in 1949 by the Arusha School in Tanzania. Arusha was a well known international school and Miss Reed was Assistant Mistress from 1934 to 1949. It's a lovely piece of history.
It is a beautiful capstan shape, made of Sterling Silver with an inscription on the front and the Hallmarks on the side. The hinge works well and it lifts to show a built in liner for ink. It is filled and has a plastic base.
The silver is shiny with some tarnish in places, particularly to the inside of the lid. The lid also has a dent to it to the centre.
It weighs 304g and measures 8.5cm diameter (just under 3 1/2 inches). The height is approximately 6cm (2 1/2 inches).
