Here we have a Sterling Silver thimble from the 1930s. It comes in a lovely green gift bag and would be a very special present for someone who enjoys sewing and haberdashery.
It’s a size 13 thimble. It was made by Henry Griffith and Sons and it was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1931. It has The Spa imprinted, referring to Henry Griffith and Sons move to Royal Leamington Spa in the late 1920s. The maker’s mark, hallmarks, and 13 for the size are on the rim.
It has a very pretty star design all the way around with a dot pattern around the top. There’s some tarnish in the design that helps to show the detail, and it is slightly misshapen at the base.
It weighs 3.6g and measures 2cm in height (3/4 inch). The diameter is 1.6cm (5/8 inch).
