This is rare old railway memorabilia! It’s an Antique Silver Plated Bowl owned by London Chatham and Dover Railway in the early 1900s. It’s a fantastic railwayana collectible and would be a great gift for someone who enjoys the history of railways in Britain, particularly Kent Railways.

It was made by Mappin and Webb and would have been used as a serving bowl on the trains.

London Chatham & Dover Railway Company (LCDR) started in 1859 and existed until 1922 when they were merged with others to form Southern Railway. Trains ran from London to north and east Kent and their badge can still be seen at the first Blackfriars Railway Bridge.

The Silver Plate is shiny and has a rim with the LCDR logo and initials on the side of the bowl.

The base is stamped with Mappin and Webb Triple Deposit Princes Plate and has a gothic letter E dating the bowl to between 1890 and 1922.

There is a bit of wear in places to the plate, mainly on the base. There are a number of dents and scratches which adds to the history of this lovely item.

The bowl measures 15.5cm diameter (6 1/8 inches). The depth is approx 3.2cm (1 1/4 inches).
