This is a pretty black lacquered Victorian Snuff Box from the early 1800s. It comes in a lovely presentation bag and would be a great gift.
It's made from wood which has been coated in black lacquer. It has a beautiful Abalone shell inlay design to the lid which has a range of very pretty colours. The lid also has a glass spy hole which adds to the lovely uniqueness of the box.
The lid is hinged and the sides and base all are coated in black lacquer. The lid opens to show a black lacquer interior. The hinge and lid close well.
It’s a great collector’s item. These boxes were very popular in the 1800s and it would make a fantastic trinket box to store small items such as rings, cufflinks, earrings or a few vitamins.
Condition
It is in good condition. There are a few places where parts of the lacquer has worn and also a little bit stained, particularly to the inside or around the edges.
Size
It measures 6.5cm by 3.5cm (2.5 inches by 1.5 inches) with a depth of 2.4cm (just under 1 inch).
