This is a beautiful Antique Solid Silver Jewellery Box, perfect for storing small items of jewellery in. It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present.
The box has a pretty lined design to the lid with a blank circular cartouche in the centre. It has shiny silver sides and four beautifully shaped feet. The lid lifts to show a lightly gilded inside and black material base.
The hallmarks and maker’s mark are on the front of the box but are a bit worn. It was most likely made by J & R Griffin and was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1920.
The hinge works well. The silver is shiny with a number of small dents to the sides and lids. The material inside is not original and while the base is currently fixed in place inside it is not totally secure. This wouldn’t affect its use but has been taken into account when pricing.
The total weight is 183g.It measures 10.1cm by 8cm (4 inches by 3 1/8 inches). The height is 5cm (2 inches).
