Here we have a stunning Antique Solid Silver Powder Compact in a Silver Case. It would have been used as a purse or case at dances and has a loop chatelaine chain to hold it by. It would make a fantastic unique gift and comes in a lovely presentation bag.
The case has a mini powder compact mirror and a shiny Sterling Silver exterior. The hinge and clasp work well and the lid lifts to show a beautiful gilded interior and the Hallmarks. On one side it has an elastic strap which would've been used to keep contents in place in the case.
The other side has a lovely round mirror and a compartment for loose powder. It also has a pretty little powder puff.
It was made by James Clark & John Sewell and is Hallmarked for Chester 1917.
It's in very good condition. The Silver is shiny with a little tarnish in the chain. The mirror has a few age marks but still provides a good reflection. There is a little powder residue in the puff and elastic strap.
It weighs 66.3g.
It measures 8.3cm by 4.2cm (3 1/4 inches by 1 5/8 inches). The depth is 1.3cm (1/2 inch).
