This is a beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Inkwell or Inkstand from the early 1910s. It’s a smaller size inkwell, perfect for sitting on a desk and using for calligraphy.
It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present.
The makers marks are on the side; it was made by Jones & Crompton and Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1910.
The inkwell is capstan shaped and made of Sterling Silver with a lovely lined rim and black base. The hinge for the lid works well and it lifts to show a plastic liner to hold ink.
The Silver is shiny with a little tarnish and a number of dents to the lid and sides that can be seen in the photos. The lid doesn’t sit completely flush with the base.
It would be a great present for someone who enjoys calligraphy.
It is filled and it weighs 186g. It’s a smaller size inkwell, measuring 6.9cm diameter (just over 2 5/8 inches) with a height of 3.9cm (1 1/2 inches).
