Here we have a beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Inkwell from the early 1900s. Its a smaller size inkwell, perfect for sitting on a desk and using for calligraphy.
It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present.
The makers marks are worn but it possibly was made by J & R Griffin and it was Hallmarked in Chester in 1913.
The inkwell is capstan shaped and made of Sterling Silver. The Hallmarks are on the side and it has a very pretty ring pattern to it. The hinge for the lid works well and it lifts to show a plastic liner to hold ink.
Its in good condition with the Silver shiny and some tarnish, particularly in the rings. It would be a great present for someone who enjoys calligraphy.
It is filled and it weighs 140g. Its a smaller size inkwell, measuring 7.4cm diameter (2 7/8 inches) with a height of 4.5cm (1 3/4 inches).
