This is a very pretty large Victorian Sterling Silver Pill Box or Pill Case from 1900. It would be ideal for storing small items of jewellery or vitamins in.
It comes in a lovely green cotton gift bag and would be a great present.
It’s made of Sterling Silver and has a beautiful embossed design all around the sides and lid. It’s rectangular with a hinged lid which opens well and lifts to show a beautiful gold washed interior. The lid depicts a scene featuring angels in a country scene.
It was made by George Nathan and Ridley Hayes and it was hallmarked in Chester in 1900. The maker’s mark and hallmarks are hidden within the design at the front of the box.
The silver is shiny with tarnish which helps to show the detailed design. The front and back of the box has tiny holes from wear although these are not obvious and are slightly more visible from the inside. The lid doesn’t sit completely flush and there’s a very small stain in one inside corner.
It weighs 27.2g measures 5.3cm by 2.8cm (2 inches by just over 1 inch). The height is 2cm (3/4 inch).
