This is an absolutely beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon from the early 1900s. It comes in a gift bag and would be a fantastic present.

Sugar sifter spoons were very popular from around 1770 to 1910 and were used for:

  • Dusting caster sugar over fresh fruit, berries, puddings, and cakes
  • Sweetening bowls of porridge or cereal
  • Adding sugar to tea or coffee before sugar cubes became commonplace
  • Sprinkling sugar over baked goods such as buns and pastries
  • At formal tea tables, where they were an elegant alternative to an ordinary teaspoon

It's a beautiful spoon that would be fantastic to use to sprinkle sugar or cocoa on food or drinks.

It was made by George Edwin Walton and Co and it was Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1900. The Hallmarks are on the back of the handle. 

The spoon is a beautiful shape with a very pretty gilt bowl, and the handle has an exceptionally pretty pierced design. The Silver is shiny with a tiny bit of patina which helps to show the detailing and some scratches. It's in good condition.

It weighs 15.8g and measures approx 12cm in length (just under 4 3/4 inches).
