This is a very pretty Antique Heart Shaped Jewellery Box from the Victorian era. It would be perfect for storing small items in such as rings, earrings or pills.
It comes in a gift bag and would be a very special present.
It was made by Henry Matthews and it was Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1899. The maker’s marks and hallmarks are on the base.
The box is made of Sterling Silver and is a heart shaped design. Around the lid it has a pretty rope design that adds to its beauty. The hinge works well and the lid lifts to show a lovely gold coloured interior.
The Silver is shiny with a little tarnish in places. There are a few marks to the gold interior and a few small dents to the side. There is a seam to the back where the heart shapes inwards from when it was made. It’s in good condition.
It weighs 49g.
It measures 5.7cm by 6cm (2 1/4 inches by 2 3/8 inches). The height is 3cm in the middle (1 1/4 inches).
