Here we have a beautiful Sterling Silver Sauce or Gravy Boat from the 1920s. It comes in a gift bag and would be a great present.
It was made by Mappin & Webb and it was Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1926. The maker’s mark and Hallmarks are on the side of the boat. It also has Mappin & Webb Ltd Sheffield and London imprinted on the base.
The boat is made of Sterling Silver and has three elegant legs. It has a beautifully detailed handle and a wavy pattern to the top edge. It would be ideal to use to serve sauces, cream or condiments. It could be also used as a small gravy boat to serve one person.
The Silver is shiny with some tarnish. There are faded tarnish spots to the inside of the boat which can be seen in one photo but wouldn’t be visible when the boat is used. There are two small dents to the boat close to the base.
It weighs 87.5g and measures 13.5cm from the lip of the boat to the back of the handle (just over 5 1/4 inches). The width is 7.8cm (3 inches) and the height to the middle of the boat is 5.5cm (2 1/8 inches).
