Product Description

This is a beautiful Antique Set of Dessert Knives and Forks in it’s original canteen. It would be a lovely set to use for dinner parties or entertaining.

The set was made by Charles James Allen and Sidney Darwen in 1893. One side of the blade features their maker’s mark and hour glass logo, while the other side has the Registered Design no 221148 which was for 1892-3.

The blades and forks are Silver Plated and have a pretty pattern to them. The tops of the blades have a small serrated area. The collars are Silver Plated and feature a Gothic L engraved on them.

The handles are beautifully smooth Mother of Pearl.

The set comes in a pretty, lined wooden canteen box from Rowell & Sons Silversmiths in Oxford. There is a lock but no key for the box.

The set is in good condition with a little tarnish in places. One of the collars has a split which can be seen in the photos and there are light scratches to the Silver Plate. The box has some wear to it, particularly where the knives and forks are put and the set fits in quite tightly in some of the spaces.

The knives measure 19.8cm in length (7 3/4 inches) and the forks measure 16cm in length (6 1/4 inches).
