These are very pretty Antique Sterling Silver Sugar Tongs from the late 1700s. They are in lovely gift bag and would be a fantastic and very special present.
They were made by Peter and Ann Bateman and they were Hallmarked in London in 1797. The Batemans were Silversmiths in the 1790s.
The Tongs have a beautifully elaborate design to the outside and AA engraved at the end. The Hallmarks and Maker’s Mark are on the inside of the arms.
The Silver is shiny with a few spots of tarnish.
The Tongs weigh 34.6g. They measure 13.8cm in length (just under 5 1/2 inches).
