Antique 1916 Sterling Silver Case, Small Silver Case
This is a beautiful Sterling Silver Case from the early 1900s. It would be ideal for using to store small items in such as jewellery or even teabags. It comes in a lovely presentation bag and would be a great gift.
It was made by Sampson Mordan & Co and its Hallmarked for London 1916. It also has Mappin and Webb stamped on it so it is likely to have been initially sold in their store.
The case has a pretty lined pattern on both the lid and the base. It has a circular cartouche in the centre of the lid with the initials EMO elaborately inscribed.
The hinge and clasp work well. The lid opens to show a bright Gilded interior with the Hallmarks on both insides.
It is in good condition. The Silver is shiny with a little tarnish in places. There are some marks inside which add to the character. There are a couple of very tiny dints on the base which you can only spot if you run your finger across them
It weighs 84g.
It measures 8.2cm by 7cm (3 1/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches). The depth is approx 1cm (3/8 inch). It would be ideal for storing or carrying small items around in.
