Antique 1907 Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell
This is a beautiful Antique Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell from the early 1900s. It has a very pretty and unique design and would be perfect to use for calligraphy or as desk decor.
It comes in a gift bag and would be a great gift.
It was made by Walker & Hall and it was Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1907. The Hallmarks are on the side of the inkwell and on the lid.
The inkwell is round with an indentation on either side in which to rest pens. At the front it has a small Gilded compartment where nibs could be stored.
The lid lifts to show a plastic removable liner to put ink in.
The Silver is shiny with some tarnish, particularly around the hinge to the compartment and in the ink base underneath the liner. There are a few small dents to the bottom edge of the inkwell and two larger ones on the lid.
It’s a good, solid filled inkwell with a total weight of 351g. The diameter of the base measures 10.5cm (4 1/8 inches). The height is approx 5cm (2 inches).
