Antique 1845 Sterling Silver Fruit Knife, Victorian Fruit Knife
This is a beautiful Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Fruit Knife from the 1840s. It would make a great gift, particularly as a Birthday or 30th Wedding Anniversary present. It comes in a lovely green gift bag.
The Maker’s Mark is JM and it’s Hallmarked for Birmingham 1845.
The Sterling Silver blade features the Hallmarks on one side. The handle is Mother of Pearl. It has an oval cartouche on one side with MJ engraved elaborately in the centre.
The back of the handle has a lovely pattern. The blade folds back into the handle with the blade tip just slightly protruding.
The blade is shiny with a bit of tarnish and quite a few scratches. There is a slight bend and curve to the blade but this shouldn’t affect it’s use. There is a small crack to the Pearl however this is just at the surface and doesn’t go all the way through. At the end of the other side is also a very tiny chip.
It measures 12.7cm (5 inches) when the blade is fully open and 7.1cm (2 3/4 inches) when closed.
